If you’re looking for a great kosher meal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I’ve got the perfect place for you. Shaq Shuq is a meat restaurant located a few blocks away from Copacabana Beach in the Clube Israelita Brasileiro. This club is a cornerstone in Rio’s Jewish community, serving as an athletic and cultural hub. As I ascended the staircase, the surprise of finding Shaq Shuq located within this esteemed institution was a delightful prelude to what awaited.

“With the myriad of options, it's a place where you could dine several times a week and still be left wanting more.”

The warmth of the restaurant was immediately noticeable, not just from the friendly staff but also from the ambiance. While the Club is in an older building which shows some of its age, the restaurant looks like it was updated more recently. The décor, an intricate dance between Brazilian flair and Jewish tradition, beckoned me further in. It's a place where you feel the harmonious confluence of two distinct cultures, making the dining experience even more memorable.

Being a meat-centric restaurant, Shaq Shuq's menu showcased a tantalizing assortment of steak, chicken, and fish dishes. But my heart, or rather my stomach, settled on the Linguine Bolognese. The first forkful hit the spot: a perfect blend of rich flavors, the right texture, and an aroma that transported me straight to an Italian grandma’s kitchen. It was Bolognese, but with something extra, a touch that distinctly set it apart from others I’ve tasted before.

What struck me about the menu was its vast variety. With the myriad of options, it's a place where you could dine several times a week and still be left wanting more. Such diversity in a kosher restaurant, especially in Rio, was a delightful surprise.

As the evening progressed, another surprise awaited outside the restaurant – a dairy food truck selling freshly made kosher pizza. I took a mental note and later that week I had a pizza delivered to my hotel room at the Sheraton Grand Rio. It was a delicious pie that was half margherita and half three-cheese.

Another bonus is that Kosher Place grocery store is located on the premises. To read more about the store, visit this link:
